Milan on the sea

Milano Marittima was born out of the lush pine forests of Cervia, between the sea, the beach and the boundless white of the salt pans. The town-planning project was born in the early 20th century, on the initiative of the Lombard bourgeoisie, who wanted to found a new Milan, a lively, chic haunt, but overlooking the sea. It was the time when the theories of Ebenezer Howard's Garden City were circulating. Thus, with the aim of preserving the centuries-old pine forest, the Cervia Natural Park was established, to which was added the area of the Salt Pans, known for the production of the famous Cervia Salt.
